Nous, universitaires provenant de disciplines et d’universités diverses, sommes horrifiés et troublés par les efforts de l’administration Trump pour promouvoir une vision étroite et néoconservatrice des études sur le Moyen-Orient. 

Nous voyons dans les démarches entreprises à l’encontre des universités Duke et UNC Chapel Hill ce qu’elles sont : un avertissement selon lequel, si les campus autorisent un débat ouvert sur les droits humains des Palestiniens, ils risquent de subir une enquête fédérale, un blâme public et un retrait de leurs financements. 

Nous disons non. Les droits humains des Palestiniens représentent l’une des questions les plus urgentes et les plus importantes de notre temps. Limiter l’examen universitaire de ce sujet pour apaiser l’administration Trump enfreint tous les principes de la liberté d’expression et d’enseignement. 

Nous nous engageons à continuer à parler de la Palestine — à enseigner l’histoire palestinienne, à citer les travaux de chercheurs palestiniens, à parrainer des évènements palestiniens, à inviter dans nos salles de cours et sur nos campus des intervenants, travailleurs culturels et militants palestiniens.

Nous ne nous laisserons pas intimider.
