Gaza : des centaines d’universitaires irlandais.es signent une lettre demandant aux universités irlandaises de suspendre leurs liens avec les institutions israéliennes

Nous écrivons en tant qu’universitaires et chercheurs.euses d’Irlande ou originaires de ce pays. L’ampleur et la gravité de la guerre actuelle d’Israël contre la bande de Gaza ont dépassé tous les niveaux de violence précédents dans le cadre de l’occupation israélienne prolongée et brutale de la Palestine.

Il s’agit d’une campagne de nettoyage ethnique et, selon de nombreux expert.e.s, d’une violence génocidaire.

L’incursion des groupes armés palestiniens le 7 octobre comprenait des attaques criminelles contre des civil.e.s.

Mais en aucun cas le droit international n’autorise le bombardement systématique et la punition collective de civil.e.s dans un territoire occupé assiégé.

Le langage déshumanisant et les formules largement utilisés par les dirigeant.e.s israéliens en référence aux Palestinien.ne.s font écho à ceux typiquement associés à l’incitation et à l’intention génocidaires.

Au cours des trois dernières semaines, les actes militaires d’Israël ont été à la hauteur de ces mots, tuant plus de 9 000 Palestinien.ne.s à l’intérieur de Gaza, dont quelque 3 760 enfants (plus que le nombre annuel d’enfants tués dans le reste des conflits armés du monde réunis).

De nombreux autres Palestinien.ne.s meurent à cause du manque de carburant, d’eau, d’électricité et de fournitures médicales dû au blocus délibéré. Les hôpitaux de Gaza sont à peine capables de fonctionner – pas d’électricité pour les ventilateurs, utilisation de vinaigre comme antiseptique, opérations chirurgicales sans anesthésie – et continuent d’être frappés par les frappes aériennes israéliennes. La situation est plus qu’inhumaine.

D’éminent.e.s spécialistes juifs.ves et israélien.ne.s de l’Holocauste et des génocides ont qualifié cette situation de « cas d’école de génocide ». Des expert.e.s en génocide bosniaque ont également déclaré que « ce qui se passe à Gaza est un génocide ».

Après la première semaine de l’assaut israélien, un groupe de plus de 800 juristes internationaux.nales et spécialistes des génocides a été « contraint de tirer la sonnette d’alarme sur la possibilité d’un génocide perpétré par les forces israéliennes », tandis que les rapporteurs.rices spéciaux.ales des Nations Unies sur les droits de l’homme ont mis en garde contre « le risque de génocide contre le peuple palestinien », appelant tous les États et les organisations internationales à remplir leurs obligations en matière de prévention des génocides.

Les massacres et les destructions n’ont fait que s’intensifier depuis lors. Plus de 60 États membres des Nations Unies ont désormais utilisé le langage du génocide pour décrire les attaques d’Israël contre la population de Gaza. Cette semaine, le ministre sud-africain des affaires étrangères a fait référence au génocide rwandais et a « rappelé à la communauté internationale de ne pas rester inactive pendant qu’un autre génocide se déroule ».

Les atrocités commises à Gaza s’ajoutant aux 75 années de colonisation et d’occupation des terres palestiniennes par Israël, rien ne devrait s’apparenter de près ou de loin à la poursuite du « business as usual ».

De nombreuses universités irlandaises et de nombreux projets de recherche financés par l’UE collaborent activement avec des universités israéliennes. Les universités israéliennes sont, selon les termes de la Campagne palestinienne pour le boycott académique et culturel d’Israël, « des complices majeurs, volontaires et persistants du régime d’occupation israélien » et de ses infrastructures militaires.

Entre-temps, plusieurs universités palestiniennes à Gaza ont été détruites par les frappes aériennes israéliennes, et quelque 70 universitaires et 2 000 étudiant.e.s ont été tué.e.s parmi les civil.e.s.

Nous demandons à toutes les universités irlandaises de rompre immédiatement tout partenariat institutionnel existant ou toute affiliation avec des institutions israéliennes. Ces liens doivent être suspendus jusqu’à ce que l’occupation du territoire palestinien prenne fin, que les droits des Palestinien.ne.s à l’égalité et à l’autodétermination soient respectés et que le droit au retour des réfugié.e.s palestinien.ne.s soit facilité.

A ce stade, toute autre attitude équivaut à un soutien tacite à des crimes contre l’humanité.
